January 22nd, Hello please forum members I really need some help I have a series Ruger Mini14 Ranch Rifle with a wood stock. Wanting to conver over to a synthetic stock.

Yesterday I bough a new factory Ruger synthetic stock that came off a Mini14 tactical.

This is not a folding stock. After much frustration I found out that I do not need to use a stainless steel liner that came off my wood stock that is fasten on each side of my wood stock. I installed the barrel liner on the synthetic stock. Can I loosen the barrel band and slide it back over the end of the stock so it fits flush! This is where I am having problems! No one has answered my? Please some help would be greatly appreciated!! I will very guardedly tell you that I performed this same changeover, going from factory wood to a straight Choate brand synthetic.

Mine did require transfer of the barrel liner from the old stock to the new one.

I had to do 2 threads to get some input!! Where I am using factory Ruger Stocks I was told to contact a gun smith probably would just have to do some adjusting with a dremmel tool!

I mean I have a Ruger Mini post a question in the right forum you would expect to get some help? It's my understanding the synthetic stocks do not take the same op rod channel as the wood ones.

You have to have a channel that is made for the synthetic stocks. I could be wrong but that is my understanding. I will do that! January 23rd, Hope you get everything situated. Ok I have done some research! My Ruger Mini14 Ranch Rifle is a series gun. I looked at Brownells web sight. Then I called Brownells got hold of a person in their " technical Dept" talked with him.

He told me no they are the same part. Got disconnected the 1st time after a tech. So I had to call again. Finally get to talk with a Ruger Factory technician, explained to her my situation then I am told that all Ruger actions are "Factory Pressed" into the stocks! Also telling me not to ship my rifle back in my factory box because if so they will destroy it! I am not in any hurry, I still need to get my scope sighted in afterwards!

But here is the reason I went to a synthetic stock was to save some weight, looking at both rifles the wood stock vs the synthetic stock one forex directory mxn 7 lbs. Don't know right now! Very frustrated also was thinking maybe I should have got a Hogue Overmold stock instead? The guy I bought this synthetic stock from said he had his gun in the Hogue stock seat on the chicago stock exchange just a few minutes!

As a result have surgeries on both shoulders my strength is not what it was! But still want to shoot hence this was one of my projects to try and make my Mini14 just a bit lighter weight! So any idea's and input at this time will be greatly appreciated!!

Be advised, with this particular stock, an op rod channel was NOT included, but the factory one in the wood stock lifted right out and transferred perfectly for me. I personally like the wood stock. When I bought my mini I contemplated between wood or synthetic hong kong fx trading went with wood and do not regret it.

I had to buy all the steel magazine hardward for the wood stock, but the sticking point is that the factory Ruger wood stock even though it looked the same uses a different forearm liner and stock cap than the synthetic stock where it slips into the gas block.

When I called Brownells they told me either stock use's the same forearm channel? I guess the best thing to do is call Ruger direct and see what they tell me! If you are right then I would have to buy a new forearm barrel channel liner! Ok I called Ruger again after 30 minute wait glad I have unlimited minutes!

Also the forearm liner part I am talking about! This part is the same wether it's used on a wood stock or a synthetic stock! So I have the right parts! But Ruger representative told me where my rifle is a earlier model that probably more time was taken to fit things up!

Then he said he would ship to me at no chg a new forearm barrel liner!

He did say that the synthetic stocks that you really have to pry to get the barrel channel liner out? Meaning will this new part snap it and stay because it's bent just enough different to stay down?
